Well, one of the things is, one should in most cases be somewhat familiar with whom you are doing business. I think most landlords do give quite a bit of loyalty, at least around here. I see quite a few farmers more than willing to take advantage of it and if the landlord doesn't push them to pay more they aren't going to either.

Loyalty really should go both ways. If you expect the landlord to talk to you before renting his ground to others do you in some way give him similar treatment? I don't mean give him a veto or anything on you renting other ground but if you paid the new landlord more, wouldn't it be only loyal to pay the old loyal landlord the same?

Most of the hurt feelings I see among landlords aren't oh he took such poor care of my land, it's the I found he was paying the guy I play cards with twice as much to get the land away from another guy. And he hasn't said a thing to me matter of fact when I mentioned maybe it was time to pay a bit more all I got was a story about how hard things are. That's the most common. They feel, whether true or not, that the tenant took advantage of them.

Sometimes there's other reasons, a relationship either gone bad or there's some new realtionship. Some landlords don't like renting to a guy they consider too big others like to rent to the biggest they can find.

In any case, there was some reason, if the landlord didn't even talk to the former tenant, he was probably not going to continue renting to him for long anyway, maybe the guy that offered was just the thing that said today's the day.
