 Lenawee Co Michigan | I'd say that's an exception rather than commonplace. Unless the landlord didn't like his tennant to start with, most would say something first.
Your reputation is the most important aspect in keeping land. We had a BTO trying to take a piece from a smaller operator, but the landlord kept renting to the smaller operator at less money because the small operator would sell the clothes off his back if necessary to pay the rent in a bad year. That same small operator rented another nearby farm this year without being the high bidder!
There's nothing lower than what we call a "door to door" farmer around here. They isolate themselves from the rest of the farm community with their greed.
