| Are there any errors or alarms that show when it is not responding? Is this a common web site that you have accessed before? Can you post the link? It's possible your security setting in IE is too high for the site you want to visit, or it may have a script error on the page. One reason I never used IE much was when Java was becoming popular. It's a scripting language used on a lot of web sites. When it first came out, many web sites were using it, but those writing the scripts may not have known the language very well and it caused lots of problems with IE. As for the other window opening, it's possible it's an advertising pop-up, which are pretty annoying. You can turn on IE's pop-up blocker by clicking on Tools>Popup blocker> and looking at the Popup blocker settings. A Medium setting will block most automatic popups. Keep in mind though if you go to web sites where you want a window to popup, you may have to add the site to those allowed by the popup blocker.
As for ending the bad window, try right clicking on the blue title bar at the top of the window, and see if you have Close as a menu choice. If so, you should be able to click Close and close that window. | |
