Subject: nitrogen on soys

Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan

More problems again this year getting good nodulation on the soybeans planted in virgin soils.  Second year in a row.  I'm beginning to theorize that the pre-inoculation program provided by my seed company ain't up to snuff.  Seriously thinking about going back to doing our own inoculation as we put the seed in the planter.

What's your opinion on that?

Second question:  How many gallons of 28 percent can I SAFELY put on soybeans with streamers?  The soybeans are close to R1.

I'm thinking a little leaf burn is OK.... and a good compromise to get some N on these soys that have little to no nodulation.  Just checking to see if there's a rate of 28 percent, post applied to soys that will do more harm than good.

thanks, gordon
