| Thanks for the thoughts. This field has been corn for the last 5 years.
We have been running a 2in straight spike on the chisel plow in the fall, spread fertilizer in the spring, and field cultivate once. Historically beans on this piece didn't finish right giving us small seeds that easily blow out the back, but with an early maturity corn, it seems we can get ahead of that, which stabilizes our yields. Our thoughts were to maybe conserve a little moisture, and change a couple passes from through the field to over the field.
The yield on this piece has been very consistent, just not what the better fields are. The economics on this piece work as it is, adding small grain or soybeans into the rotation pokes holes in that barrel. If I can't make continuous corn no-till work, continuous corn with tillage is what it will be.
Thanks again. | |
