NE ND | If you are going corn, would strip till be possible. I have burned with good results if there is a strong wind. This allows the fire to move very fast and only burns the top vegetation off leaving the mat of semi broken down organic matter undisturbed. Then I go in with 16 inch sweeps on chisel plow and skim the surface to level gopher and mole hills. Then go in and no till beans (beans only because corn is hit and miss this far north even with black ground tilled to warm it in the spring). I have found once you start working CRP, you are committed until it is black to achieve a decent seed bed. | |
