NW TX Panhandle
Corn plants use very little N during tassel & pollination. (as not much growth is actually occurring). Afterwards is a different story. While # of kernels is set mostly early in development, the kernel size (depth of kernel) is more a function of available moisture & N, from the blister stage to maturity. In essence, you still need both to grow a optimum size ear (kernels actually). Good Luck.
