Nevada, Iowa | If it's clean and dry, I wouldn't think twice about holding some over. If you had the quality of crop last year that we had (dry and good test weight) I would do it. If you need the cash, there is probably some other maneuver with options that makes more sense and if you're going to transfer to another bin, I think I'd put it on wheels and move it out. If you do transfer it , screen it. If you do hold it, you can hold new crop with air till winter and blend old corn with it to save on drying charges or discounts. We used to hold corn in the reserve program for three years, I didn't like it and it was a challenge but holding good quality old crop till next spring wouldn't bother me a bit. Who know what next year will bring in prices. | |
