Central IA | Sure, when you get big rains even no till can wash. That's why I'm really diving into using cover crops. I want absolutely no soil to leave my farms. How much of an improvement? How long have you been tilling? I'm not even advocating 100% notill. Heck, even running a rotary harrow instead of a finisher would be a HUGE improvement in terms of conservation and soil health. The harrow will also do about what the finisher will as far as soil warm up etc. We still use ours occasionally. Like I said, we striptill our corn (even our corn on corn). I found that to be a good compromise and we think we're really seeing a yield bump from banding nutrients. | |
