Subject: RE: potatoe bugs

NW Central Ohio
...the time honored method is knocking them off or dropping them into a can with a little bit of diesel fuel in the bottom. Sad to say it...but most of the insecticides available to homeowners won't touch a potato beetle any more. Hand removal is a difficult job. I quit growing them in the garden for a looooooong time. Planted 4-55 gallon barrels with two potatoes apiece this spring...and so far have only had one beetle. They overwinter in the soil they're grown in. I may sterilize the soil in the barrels when I tip them out and try it again next year.
