Subject: RE: Skip row corn?

Southeast Colorado
The theory is that the corn roots have a bank of moisture saved that they can extend to later in the season. When your plants are on every row they use all of the moisture up in the immediate area leaving nothing for later. I know the long term studies I've witnessed have shown this to work. Not sure if we can make money doing it but we shall see. It is basically a moisture insurance policy. I'm sure in a good year we are giving up yield.............but in my 25 years of farming we've probably only had 2 or 3 that could have grown good dryland corn and that was only known after the fact.
