I guess it depends on how extensive a rebuild you are doing. We rebuilt our drill this winter with new opening coulters, new seed firming wheels, new seed tabs and modified the closing wheel. We left the units on the draw bar. We had to spin 180 degrees the pin in the main drawbar, but did that by driving it out a bit, turning it and driving it back in.
We did put the whole drill up on blocks, that gave us an extra 18" of clearance, and that helped a bunch. With the right tools, patience, and a slow and steady approach it was a very rewarding job, saved a lot of money and I know we have a drill that is sound for many acres yet.
