My guess is it smelled some early morning frost which happens in low spots...If its not windy when it freezes the corn blankets ground warmth and the corn doesn't freeze near the ground.
Big tough corn plants don't take 31 degrees F very well or very long and it only takes a couple of minutes of that temp to damage corn.
What's with this corn?
