If you're trying to conserve moisture, why would you chisel it?
Dryland farming In the western states when your moisture is concentrated on a few large sporadic storms the yield is much greater when you chisel down the seed row and lightly till the non crop areas. It's not uncommon to plant right after the last rain and grow a crop with no rain or irrigation during the growing season and the yield difference between the traditional tillage and some of the no till practices is the difference between harvesting a crop or having an auction. |
