Texas/New Mexico Stateline | Not double crop. It was wheat last summer, fallowed over the fall and winter. The theory if it works is the skip works as a bank of moisture to carry the crop through any dry stretches of weather. Dryland summer crops only work here if we have a bank of moisture stored in the soil. Normally we don't get enough during the growing season to make a crop.
I suspect there is already corn to be harvested down state. Up here on the high plains it is totally different from down state. They plant as early as possible to get the crop made before summer heat. We sometimes plant as late as possible to make the crop after the heat.
