Good plant health and fertility will help from my expirence. But weather conditions coupled with hybrid selection make the ultimate determination for me.
I scout every acre and decide what and when to spray. Last year i had a few hybrids that actually needed a second application but i didnt spray it. A neighbor that did saw about 30bpa yield difference from the second app... On top of 25-30bpa from the first application!
I saw an average of 22bpa yeild increase on all my acres last year which is he largest i have seen. That does not happen every year mind you. But a 10-15bpa increase is pretty routine along with increased standabily, but we fight low K numbers on several of our farms.
I have seen zero response on some hybrids in the past though. It takes knowledge of the hybrids and current weather conditions to make the best decision imo. | |
