I have a different kind of problem ,,,,,,, My bales are too loose. What length of bale do you make and what weight are they???????? I have alfalfa and orchard grass and I like the mix I have, I am just having too loose a bale, hard to handle. Thanks Spike
I haven't weighed or measured a bale in a long time. I'm thinking they are 40" and weigh about 60#.
It starts with using the right twine. A heavy bale requires heavy twine. I personally like poly with a knot strength of 170#. Standard poly is 130# and will not support heavy bales. There are heavier twines, but they seem to be overpriced.
Next is your baler. I am running a NH baler that has hydraulic downforce to control the density of the bales. There are also adjustable side restricters that can make the bales tighter. Older balers had springs and may or may not have the side restrictors. If your baler does not have restrictors, you can add them. You may also be able to lengthen the chamber.
