Don't use a plane. Your likely doing fine as a full time farmer. Very happy for you. I hope and work every day to get in the same position. My father doesn't use the plane service. He pre plants or sidedresses his N via AA. It is my believe I am making more per acre then him doing this. I also choose hybrids that will perform with the use of late season N. It is my belief their is more yield punch in them.
I farm two farms with similar soil types and similar drainage charisterics. Last year I did an all pre plant blend and a pre plant/fly on blend. Same amount of nutrients. Planted same day. Harvested same day. Different hybrids tho. One hybrid was said to prefer early N. The other late N. The late N hybrid made 190, the early N hybrid I believe made 160.
