HERE.... we always spray our alfalfa the seeding year.... at least once.  With the cost of the other herbicide choices, and the lack of weather limitations, roundup ready alfalfa is a good buy for us,.  

On some of our sandy soils, we have sprayed every year.... there is a huge seed bank on some of that ground.  We have sprayed a couple of fields on heavy ground as well.  

Yes, the seed is expensive, but after figuring everything in.... it is what we plant. We plant pioneer as that comes in the cheapest, as we purchase half  of our seed corn from them also.
