Dad tried this back in the mid 60's. First year everything went perfect and we had 60 some bu wheat and 50+ bu beans. Man, this was the way to do things. Second year it started raining a week before wheat harvest. Rained steady for 3 weeks. By the time it dried enough to mud out wheat, the beans were 6 inches taller than wheat.. Could not clean all the green leaves out of the wheat sample, thus had significant dock. Cutting off the top 8-10 inches of bean plants removed the growing point and beans only produced 10 bu.

Gave up on that after 2 years.
