Subject: herbicide for alfalfa in soybeans

Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan

We did some extensive tiling in an alfalfa field this spring.  We wanted to leave the alfalfa growing so that we could be assured of having a firm, dry soil surface to give us the desired traction to do the tiling this spring.  That worked for us, but we now have quite a bit of alfalfa growing along side the soybeans we planted in early June.

I'll be spraying our first pass of glyphosate soon.  Will glyphosate control the alfalfa?  If so, what rate of glyphosate does it take?  If glyphosate is weak on alfalfa, what other herbicide should I consider?  Hopefully, something in-expensive.

thanks, gordon
