That way the landlord got a variable income and he shared in some of the risk. He was responsible for marketing his own crop so he still felt somewhat engaged in farming. When prices went down though, he decided to go to a straight cash rent lease. We custom farmed for a guy for a number of years , mostly for his tax reasons, i.e he had to be actively engaged in farming. His biggest problem is he had no storage and had a hard time getting his crop marketed for a decent price. | |
