No way would I ever drive through the field....especially this late and only put on 30# of N. 30# is hardly anything...But then again, I don't live in a county where the average yield was 236 bushels per acre like you had in 2014.
Maybe your higher productivity soils can mineralize more N out of your Organic Matter..?
