Subject: Soil temps

NW Iowa
Been reading a few posts on no till and everything else got me thinking about soil temps. Looked up Iowa 4 inches soil temp today in my county. It's in the 80s. Did some web surfing to find optimum soil temp for growing corn. Looks like 70 degrees is a good number. ( soil temps) Looked up hydrphonics and its 60 to 70. The lower the temp of water the more dissolved oxygen it can hold.

Have a few acres that are drip irrigation. The water is around 50 degrees. Wondering how much that cools the ground from 80? Might have to buy something to see. What do you guys use to test temps? Tape is buried at 12 inches so maybe something to measure 4 , 6, and 12 inches deep.
