We run an 875 ripper and also a Wishek disc in the fall. In the spring I try and apply nh3 to the notill first as the soil structure is still in tack and I'll have less compaction there than the tilled ground. If there isn't deep compaction from the spring i think the disc is the better tool to mix residue in the soil for decomposing. I do hate how rough the disc leaves it though.
