Subject: DMI Ripper Depth & Soil Effects

sw MN

Does ripping in the fall 15" deep cause the soil to be wetter in the spring than shallower tillage?

We have been ripping corn stalks that deep.  My observation  is those fields are wetter in the spring and they pack easy.

The end rows pack very easy.  Of course a wet spring makes it worse.  Ripping the ends seems like a waste of time.  It repacks worse than before. I have better luck from gypsum than a ripper on the ends.

How much difference would it make to shallow the ripper up to 10" or 8"?
Or just use a disk and skip the ripper?
