That economics sure could be a factor. 100 bushel wheat vs 200 bushel corn today, but I don't know what the differences in yield and price were in 1895. I'd think there was an established market in Iowa in those days which isn't present now and hasn't been in a very long time. I suspect the wheat yield has increased by a much smaller amount than corn yield has increased in the past century.
