From what i have observed from the last few years, from being continous no-till for 24 years, is that you have to have a different rotation than just corn-soybean to see the benfits that no-till can offer, like more water holding capacity, better water infiltration and building organic matter. You could ad a cool season crop like wheat, or least a cover crop with high carbon content. As far as weeds, rotate modes of action, if you are bent on a corn-bean rotation use liberty link soybeans and use a cover crop to keep the weeds off guard.


I'm just curious.....to what extent will you go to make no-till "work"? Seems to me that some are spending alot of time and money just to try to maintain yield that even just one tillage pass could solve. And that one tillage pass if done correctly with the right tool can still leave plenty of residue and in all likelihood not cause any more erosion (and maybe even less in some cases) than no-till.
