Yep and make yourself a spring setting tool to easily compress the springs. Get some 3/16" thick by 1-1/4" bar stock, can buy a 4ft piece and cut it in half. Drill a 3/8" hole approximately 6 inches in from one end and another smaller hole slightly offset from center then V them out. Use a bolt with double nut to give some tension and you want the 2 V notches to face each other. So you need to offset these holes in the correct way. Gives you lots of leverage and makes it easy to hook the safety catch. You could contour the end for a more comfortable hand grip if you want to.
