I'm no expert about it, but there is some grown near me.

You wouldn't have four years off because you'd be out there constantly spraying, weeding, blowing straw, and putting shade cloth up or down for the season. All the tractor work gets done with little tractors like Farmall B's since everything else is too big. You'd also be busy with your banker since your draining your checking account for several years before you get a return.

I don't know what the exact economics of it is but if you corn belt guys think $400 rent is high that's what they pay, and that's for land that was worth $50-$200 an acre other wise, so in the corn belt world it would be like someone paying $1500/ac rent.
