40/20vision - 6/18/2016 10:21 Ok help me out I'm a little confused. The pics in Johns link is what I always called scouring rush( the tall stringy stuff that grows in the ditch). But the OP is the little pine tree looking things that grow in the fields. I've heard them referred to as horse weed. But now scouring rush and horse weed are the same thing?

They are both Equisetum species, but not the same plant.  There is at least 10-12 different species.

It sorta like the different Amaranth species and when people will say its "pigweed" and be correct to a degree.  Then when you ad in "local" names things really get sketchy.

What the OP has is Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) in my opinion.  There is also some type of Sedge in the second pic.
