What stage are most of those plants at? Ran into a field w/ similar symptoms from different reason years ago and corn didn't look like it would be able to unwrap. Took 3pt mower and raised it above growing point (if above ground to begin with) and it looked fine 5-7 days later after chopping the tops off. We left a check strip and most of that corn ended up dying or not producing ears.
