Any kind of organic matter bedding particularly of it gets damp can lead to e coli mastitis problems. That is the reason many producers have gone to sand bedding. Been there and done that.


But at the same time, many dairies use sawdust, etc on waterbeds or mats with no issues of ecoli. So what's different on this farm?

To the OP, is there anybody who would culture your bedding to see if it has a high bacteria load? Also, if you use cloth towels, possibly do a culture test on those to check for cleanliness.
