I would be a little worried that a lot of that surface broadcast will be tied up by the dead rye..but I've never tried it so let us know how you get along.
That is a valid concern, but i am thinking it will not be a problem in this case, because this field has been continious no-till for 20+ years so it is most likely in balance, so what N that is tied up in the residue, there will be N released from the organic matter to counter react that. Then again i might be wrong.
