Farmington IL
I fed my cows over a millon pounds of feed last winter. Never shoveled any snow out of a bunk to do it because they generally eat right off of the ground. I feed them first thing in the morning and done with them for the day. The only piece of equipment you dont already own is the tmr and it is a piece with one of the higher roi's of anything you could ever purchase for your cow herd.
I understand you dont want to operate this way. As you say there are a lot of ways to skin a cat. That being said you would love the results of limit feeding your cows because there are some really nice advantages. These three are the big ones for me. Feed cost go down. You can control cow condition. Feed waste plummets.
Your trit, pea hay looks awesome. I would chop that in a heartbeat.
