  However bagged corn silage can only be at most a small portion of the feed needs for over-wintering bred brood cows. These are not feeders. 

Jim silage can be the majority of the ration for cows. They'll need some additional roughage and protein but silage is the main and largest ingredients for a lot of beef cows winter rations.
