We have 160 acres of seed corn production every year. Usually the male and female have different planting dates, so we splurged a few years ago and bought a 6 row 7000 for patches and male corn. We block up the middle 4 rows and just use the 2 outside. Son-in-law and I went to the Precision Winter Conference and got a couple Precision units with the new belts for the male rows. Our seed field manager repeatedly commented he had never seen a drop that consistent. We intended to compare the Precison units to the Deere in a commercial field. However we had a worn seed tube that messed up the drop. We are going to put Precision Bullseye tubes on it this winter. Is it worth it? Yes. I think a guy could take an old 7000 and rebuild it (replace the worn stuff like openers and chains, etc) and put in Precision units and do as good a job as almost any new planter out there ... and better than most |
