In seed production fields, we spray Pursuit or two shots of bromoxynil and assure 2. Pursuit can yellow it off pretty good but bromoxynil doesn't do anything to alfalfa. Not sure if you can use it in a hay field or not. We try and spray before the alfalfa is 12" tall
