I do not understand why everyone wants the rye to be cutup, mulched, totally flattened, etc. I usually drill through cereal rye at or slightly after pollination. The drill lays 1/3-1/2 flat with the remainder laying down over the next month. We chase the drill with the sprayer. On a soy-corn rotation if a little rye seed matures so what-just cover seed for next year. The weeds the rye mat controls are much worse than any volunteer rye. Now if you have wheat in the rotation--never mind.


This is organic land...no chasing it with a Sprsyer unless you wanna start 3 years of transition over again.

We are trying to get away from cultivating all summer long.
