Subject: Cover Crop Didn't Save All my N

North Central Illinois
Field was alfalfa seeded April 2014. About 30% of the field drowned just before taking second cutting last summer. Once the water when down I disked and seeded oats, rape, crimson clover and berseem clover August 1. Very little came of the clovers, but there was a lot of growth on the oats and rape. Turned cattle out in late October to graze the 4th cut alfalfa and cover instead of mowing a very odd shaped alfalfa patch again. Moldboard plowed early November and applied 1 ton/acre layer litter in late March. Corn planted 17 days ago is pale in the areas where the alfalfa drowned. Not sure how well it shows in the picture. Not too wet this spring.
