SDS comes from a fusarium infection early but manifests as SDS later given stress conditions. To avoid SDS, prevent Fursarium. A good seed treatment along with a good SDS tolerant variety is the best management practice. Planting later tends to have less fusarium but all it takes is a cool wet period which can happen anytime, just more frequently early.

Alevo seed treatment seems very effective on the fusarium that causes SDS.
