They built all the small tractors (below 100 hp, more or less) in Mannheim and still do the 6xxx series. Moved the 5xxx series over here when they quit the 2155-3255 tractor lines.
The engine plate says France because Deere built almost all of the 4 cylinder engines there I Saran France if memory serves.
I worked at a JD dealer in Selmalia, AL when the 5000 series debuted. We thought it was the end of the world. They weren't built nearly as heavy as the 55's they replaced. Gave a little less trouble though. 55 series were bad for wiring harnesses and other odd stuff giving trouble. Love my 5300
