I had the same thing happen a couple years ago. I did the same thing by resetting the gauge only i calibrated the gauge at the operating pressure with air pressure in my shop. It has worked for two years now.

I move the low pressure setting so the needle is relaxed at zero over winter. I also put a loop in the water line which is suppose to help keep water from entering the gauge itself but I'm not that convinced that is the solution.
