Western Iowa | The splined shaft you speak of is not the style that works for the narrow front. Deere had 2 completely different front steer motors available at that time. The one with the splined shaft sticking down was only wide front.
The other steer motor, which some call the 'convertible' steer motor was just like the 20 series, where 4 bolts removed the steering arm for the wide front and those same 4 bolts hold on the roll-o-matic or whatever narrow front you wanted.
