Subject: RE: Precision Planting products questions

Northwest Ohio
We used to take our meters to Deere every couple of years or so, and could see an improvement after we got them back.

We've had the first 3 Precision meter components (fingers, back plate, skip stop) since 2005. The first year that we ran with these 3 components by themselves, spacing was better than before, but still would periodically notice a a skip, followed immediately by a double. The right number of seeds were there, but the one of the seeds shifted causing a skip followed immediately by a double.

In 2006 we added the curved belt (to drop the seed in the middle of the tube), and the new tube (with the sensor out of they way to stop seed bounce in the tube). The problem of a skip followed immediately by a double went away ... I think the seed tube sensor may have been causing us that issue in 2005 (seed was bouncing in the tube on the way down). The improvement was visually noticeable.

I should note that we don't farm nearly as many acres as others, so I can't comment on the longevity of the components yet. But the spacing definately looks better. Don't know whether it translates into yield either ... but everything I've read is the the more uniform the spacing in corn, the better.

I'm pretty sure that Precision has a video that you can request, which shows video of things happening inside the meter
