24.5 recaps are a completely different animal than molded tires. The caps can be old, dry, checked, tread peeling, etc and still run for many years. Molded tires like 11.2's start going flat as soon as they get some sidewalk cracks. You can keep them alive longer with tubes, but you have to be proactive because it seems to be rare that a tire goes flat while running without being damaged beyond repair.

As for the OP, I think the coop is being pretty optimistic at $300. Someone might pay it, but I wouldn't.
