Subject: Tread pattern vs floatation

Huntington, IN
Is there any difference in floatation when you change tread pattern. Looking at a 3 bar tread vs a 2 bar it appears as if the 3 bar will stay up better. Am I dreaming or not? The tire at hand is a 14.9-24 on the rear of a 9410. We currently have 2 bar tread and I have gotten ahold of a set of 3 bars from a neighbor that look to be wider and put more surface to the ground. Will I be waisting my time to swap them and try the 3 bar? We were going to put the two together and dual them up but or local mechanic strongly advised against that as the spindles aren't strong enough. He said our only option for more float was to go to a 16.9 and that will raise the back end enough to make it not fit in the shed. Don't really want to have to absorb the cost of metrics.
