Kingston,Mi | The first long distance race at Indy was a 100 lap race in 1909 on asphalt, sponsored by Presto-lite and won by a driver from Kingston, Michigan, Robert "Wild Bob" Burman. He raced in the inaugural Indy in 1911 and the following years thru 1915 before being killed in a road race in Corona California in April of 1916. He set a world record at the Dayton Beach sands of 141 MPH in the "Blitzen Benz" in April of 1910. He raced as part of a company sponsored team from Buick along with the Chevrolet brothers in a purpose built race car called the Buick Bug. 2 were built and 1 resides in the Sloan-Longway auto museum in Flint.
