Worked for a couple guys who I treated it as my own. Most were pretty decent about it but as I have gotten older I realize I was wrong. ( I was doing the right thing but it was not my right to make those decisions).
The only way to fix it is to go on your own.
After I retired and just helped the kids I have to fight that desire yet!
