SW Minnesota, Lyon County | I've been a member for 25+ years. Treasurer on the board for over 20. Was asked to try it for a year, ha, ha!! When I first joined, the club was private. Economy dictated that we had to open it up to everyone. Did well for awhile, then not so good, then really well, and now pretty bad again. Older members passing away and not many young come in. We have pull tabs and used to be able to pay our utilities with that and still have plenty to donate to organizations. Now that has dropped off significantly and can't even pay utilities and donating to the "regulars" is hard. I don't go in like I should. Kind of got burnt out during a remodeling project some years back. Spent every spare minute I had there to get it fixed up and ready to go. I wonder how much longer we can survive. Small town with 4 bars in it presently and none are doing great. We don't have food all the time, just breakfasts and steak feeds occasionally. Seems like food is where we make the most money though. Order was established in the early 80's. Hate to see it gone, but don't know what to do to generate business. |
